Alaamat (Ta'weez in New Business Account Book)

Alaamat Writing of Ta'weez in the new business account book
The National Festival (Diwali and New Year) are celebrated with great fervour and zeal all over the globe. Its festive fever lasts for about a week where people close down their businesses establishments. Each day of this festival has its distinct significance in the society – both at home and at work places. Though this festival does not coincide with the beginning of the new financial year, it is a custom to buy new account books so that the New Year brings a good omen for the prosperity of the business.

With these ceremonial activities, we do not have any special rituals like others do but the Mumineen always wish their business to prosper with the Name of Allaah. We all know that on the mubaarak night of Layl un-Nisf (Shab-e-Baraa’at) – night of 15th Sha’baan we all wish and pray with the hope that with our du’a of taubah, may Allaah erase all our evils and grant us maghferat. This is done with the introduction of new aamaal-naamu (an account book of our deeds) in which all the actions - good or bad is recorded and on this night we pray that, may Allaah fill our deed book with His Noor and Rehmat.

This belief of reflected in the business proceedings also where we being Bohras – a business oriented community, maintain good rapport and friendly relationship with the majority who are mainly Hindus. Their religious rituals during different festivals have huge impact on market scenario and accordingly our mumineen has to follow certain business pattern but under the limits of our deen. It’s an auspicious practice of Du’aat ul-Akrameen (aq) that whenever Mumineen intend to start their new business or shop or factory, they would invite Da’i uz-Zamaan Saiyedna saheb to their work place for its inauguration. Saheb-e-Da’wat would give a Ta’weez of Hifaazat (protection) and recite Qur’an-e-Kareem on the water which would then be sprinkled in all the corners of the work place for Barakaat.

During the days when major markets remain close during Diwali, mumineen used to invite Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) to their shops or factories and Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) along with the Hudood-e-Keraam would bless their place and write the Ta’weez of Barkat-o-Rizq in their newly purchased account books. He would then pray for the prosperity of the business. Apart from this, mumineen who have strong faith in the tahreer (inscription) of Saheb-e-fazl-o-ataa would come to Devdi Mubaarak with the new account books. They would then do arz to Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) to write the Nooraani Aayaat of the Qur’an (of Rizq and Barakat) in the beginning of their books. This is followed till now. This year, many Mumineen got an opportunity to come to Devdi Mubaarak for this rasm-e-Taiyebi. It is a matter of contention and belief that if others start their New Year with worldly fun-fair, we would also begin our new business year with the Nooraani Aayaat of the Qur’an written by Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) or Hudood-e-Keraam. After writing the Ta’weez, Huzoor-e-‘Aali (tus) does the Du’a of Qudsaani Barakaat and Inaayaat for the Mumineen.
