Nisbat (Function of engagement)

Nisbat The Ceremony of Engagement
In the collection of Da'wat books, the word “Da'wat”, wherever it is mentioned, is described in conjunction with the words of guidance, advice, manner and conduct because for the annihilation of delinquency and ignorance, Allah has bestowed His choicest of blessings of Da'wat upon the believers from the day of beginning, so that they abide to the divine straight path (Siraat ul-Mustaqeem) and secure the path of truth. This Da'wat is not merely meant for spiritual ascension but also for the regulation and control of social and cultural customs and practices. Da'wat-e-Haadiyah guides and directs in each and every aspect of the life of a mumin. Saaheb-e-Da'wat serves to the mumineen and mankind as a symbol of benevolence and kindness sent by Allah through which they make people recognize their ranks and status ( darajaat ). Indeed, Da'wat is the divine light and a ray of hope in this period after the satr of Imaam uz-Zamaan (AS). Under the guidance of this light, mumineen makes their way through the hardships of ignorance and darkness.

Right from the birth to the time of death, all the customs, practices and tradition of Da'wat during the times of Ambiyaa, Awsiyaa, A'immat and Du'aat (SA) were coined according to the needs, demands and the lifestyle of the people of that particular time. At all times these customs were governed by the laws of Shari'at. Rasoolullaah (SAWS) was sent as the concluder of the Shari'at and he brought the best of the religion upon us. He made the foundation of all the auspicious and propitious customs which are practiced till today. The succession of these pious practices was carried over by the Du'aat-e-Kiraam (AQ) in its unaltered form and was secured and protected by them and the mumineen were made aware about its facts. The imprint of these customs still shines unblemished in the hearts of mumineen.

Rasoolullah (SAWS) arranged the engagement of his pious daughter, his glory of sight Faatima az-Zahraa (AS) with the guardian and the successor of his Da'wat, his uncle's son Maulaana ‘Ali (AS) and made him his son in law. This custom of engagement (nisbat) was amended and simplified by 41 st Da'i-e-Mutlaq Saiyedna Fakhruddin Saaheb (AQ) in such a way that each and every mumin; either low or high, rich or poor; could accomplish this practice (rasm) of engagement with equal fervor and zeal. Saaheb-e-Da'wat has a distinguished role in this rasm. In the majlis of nisbat, Saaheb-e-Da'wat; in the presence of all relatives and members; puts forward the proposal of ‘to be groom' ( makhtoob ) to the members of ‘to be bride' ( makhtoobah ). After the proposal is accepted by the members of ‘to be bride', an amount of Rs.1000 decorated as a gift article is given to the members of ‘to be groom' by the hands of Saaheb-e-Da'wat. Exchange of greetings and compliments then confirms a new relation between two families. All the members of both the sides are then offered a specially prepared Sharbat. On this day, a thaal of sudanna (a blend of rice, curd, sugar and dry fruits) is decorated and sudanna is distributed among all the relatives, friends and neighbors. Both the families and their relatives then exchange the invitations of feast and lunch and gifts are given among them.

At the time of Saiyedna Fakhruddin Saheb (AQ), the amount of engagement as a mehr was mere Rs.200. Looking at the need of time; Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna Saaheb (TUS) increased this amount to Rs.1000 five years back. This means that any mumin with the sum of Rs.1000 can lead a married life with a well-mannered and cultured muminah. It is the choice of mumin, according to his financial strength, at the time of first night after marriage; he can give any thing to his bride as a mehr.

Saaheb-e-Da'wat Huzoor-e-‘Aali (TUS) shares his greetings and compliments with mumineen and prays for their well-being. “O Allah, give the fortune of pious and pure relation to every Taiyebi ‘Alavi mumin; give every mumin the luck of relation with well-mannered, pious, pure, virtuous, devout, religious, dutiful and loyal muminah; and make this garden of truthful Da'wat of Saiyedna ‘Ali (AQ) always bloom and protect this divine succession of Da'wat and its believers and followers”, these are the words in the way of Allah.

Allah, by His grace, brought the occasion of nisbat in the royal family of Da'wat. The rasm of nisbat of As-Saiyedah Maymana; daughter of Maazoon-ud-Da'wat Saiyedi Haatim Zakiyuddin Saheb (DM) was accomplished in the presence of Huzoor-e-‘Aali (TUS) on 14 th Shawwal 1427. Photographs of this rasm are placed on the website. We request mumineen to browse the photographs.
